Gavin and Shirley on the cover of Details, 1996

So funny story. I bought this issue of Details when it came out…the summer before 9th grade. Still have it. I had no idea Details was a men’s magazine and this particular issue was a special annual “music issue”. I thought it was a music magazine akin to SPIN or Alternative Press so I asked my mom for a subscription. Needless to say, I did not renew. However I did learn some things about crystal meth due to my subscription.

Hey look! I’m in the Garbage Gallery! Well my photo is. Angela B. wrote this lovely poem and reached out to me about using one of my photos from the April 7 Madison show as a visual complement to the poem. Nicely done, Angela and thanks for including my photo in your work. (In case you’re curious, the photo was taken during Only Happy When It Rains)

               EARS LIKE EYES
At first glance eyes pass you by
Don’t feel like you’re noticed
Eyes easily fall on what seems appealing
The world thinks all eyes are one
If your eyes gaze about
The World’s Eyes look down upon you shamefully
Why don’t you see what I see?
Since the beginning of time
Their eyes have been blurry
They’ve grown accustom to what’s considered good eye sight
Refusing to have corrective lenses
I’ll blind fold you
To help you see more clearly the reality
Keenly focus on your ears
The sound from afar is ringing in your ears
At second glance now your ears are your eyes
What you overlooked has been realized
If all had eyes like this
Being unnoticed would be unheard of
* Your song “Not Your Kind of People” inspired me to write this poem. If your eyes gaze about by diverting from jumping on the bandwagon then the world looks at you as an outsider. Eyes can easily judge others. Truly with ones’ ears they can come to know or see the secret person of the heart and their seed of motivation. Your songs “Show Me” and “Bright Tonight” refer to this.

Around the world with Shirley Manson from Pancake Mountain. I hadn’t seen this one before. It’s sad that Pancake Mountain got cancelled. This is awsome.

Garbage - The One LIVE at the Fillmore, Silver Spring MD 2013-03-24 (by aztalanturf)

It’s the battle in me…

Be careful with me. I’m fragile. I’m easily broken. Be careful with me. Trip my wire. Cuz I’m a bitch and I’m on fire.

I’m not sure what I’ll do if I ever hear this song live. Pretty sure my head will explode.
